Asperger's Syndrome

The Watson Institute offers a program called ACCLAIM, Autism College and Community Life Intervention Model, founded in 2008, a program designed specifically for those with Asperger’s Syndrome and high-functioning Autism. According to The Watson Institute, “The program focuses on the skills necessary to succeed at college and includes therapeutic, learning and social components.”

This program is offered in PA at The University of Pittsburgh, Robert Morris University and Community College of Allegheny County. For more information, visit The Watson Institute website:

In a previous post, College Assistance for Asperger’s and Special Needs Kids, I mentioned The College Living Experience, which has five locations. A comment was posted by Dan McManmon (thanks Dan) with another resource, the College Internship Program (CIP). CIP also offers multiple campuses across the company and looks to be an excellent program as well. Their website states “We provide individualized social, academic, career and life skills instruction to young adults 18-26 with Asperger’s, ADD and other Learning Differences.”

It seems with the increase of diagnoses with Autism Spectrum Disorders, we may see more and more college resources for those who are college bound and on the ASD scale. This is very promising.
