As I have previously mentioned, I have worked from home for about ten years now. This is a hugely competitive market for job applicants and it may take you a long time before you get a job you really love. You may want to consider trying something that would not be your first choice, if you can get the gig, just so that you can gain experience with telecommuting.
One thing that is so important is that you absolutely must have an outstanding resume. Remember that there can be literally hundreds, even a thousand or more, of other job seekers vying for the same position as you. If your resume does not stand out, you will not even be considered. No one is going to read every detail of your resume on first glance. They will most likely peruse for format and see if there are any glaring errors in spelling or grammar and toss those that are not up to par.
Also remember to craft a cover letter for each specific company you are going after. Do your research on the company and add a tidbit or two about them in your cover letter and why you think you would be a good fit. Think of it as like standing in line at the grocery store and seeing the headlines that catch your attention. You need the same thing – you need to grab their attention in only a few seconds. Make them want to learn more about you, show why you are different than the other applicants.
There are a lot of different resources online to assist you. Do a search for cover letter tips and free resume templates. There is no shortage of information out there to assist you. If you have the money, you may want to consider using a resume writing company. There are some that offer a guarantee that you will get interviews or your money back! If you have sent your resume out and are not getting any response, this is something you should strongly consider. In my work at home eBook I list a couple of resources for resume writing companies. Feel free to visit my contact page and enter your information and the link to download the ebook will be sent to you immediately.
